What it means to be "Not of this World"

Have you heard the phrase?
If you haven't, you've certainly seen the Brand name LOGO on the a back of an SUV or on a stylish (ed hardy/affliction) looking t-shirt.
Sure, using a cool phrase from the Bible can be a good way to sell capital goods. Not to mention a really neat and cryptic way for a Christian to declare their faith to the world without looking "Religious". But what does it mean to be Not of this World? We must first explore what it means to be OF THIS WORLD.

Here is the world in a heartbeat : money, power, lust, personal gain, idolatry, violence, greed, wants, things, MTV, Vanity fair, alcohol, drugs, and death. Did we miss anything? Oh yes, last and most importantly the ruler of the World "THE DEVIL."
 12Therefore rejoice, you heavens
and you who dwell in them!
But woe to the earth and the sea,
because the devil has gone down to you!
   He is filled with fury,
because he knows that his time is short."

8Again, the devil took Jesus to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. 9"All this I will give you," he said, "if you will bow down and worship me."
A lot of  Christians don't acknowledge or understand that the World is allowed to Satan by God himself. And he will remain the ruler until the return of the Lord, where Satan is locked up and then eventually cast into eternal fire forever!!! Victory !! But in the mean time we need  to be weary of this World and not let it overcome us, that we are caught and defiled by the schemes of the Devil himself. Jesus says to the worldly pharisees:  44You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desire.

In John Chapter 8 Jesus tells the religious leaders of that time : And He was saying to them, " You are from below, I am from above; you are of this world, I am not of this world. So what is he saying ? Jesus is proclaiming that he is of heaven, and as Christians forgiven and accepted into Eternal life, so are we. We are not to store up riches here on Earth where they rust and get eaten by moths, we are to store our riches in heaven.

So, are we to go on with our lives in boredom doing nothing fun, secluded from society? OF COURSE NOT!! That would be impossible...

The apostle John says in 1 John 2:15
Do not love the world nor the things in the world If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. We must acknowledge that the World is Dieing, nothing on Earth will last. We can't take "things" with us when we die. We can partake in all kinds of fun things here on Earth but we must know in our hearts that there is more out there, that someday soon we will be forever glorified on high.
